You may soon be a bright eyed college graduate ready to conquer the world or simply a person that is looking for a new career. Reardless of who you are the eternal question remains….”Do sales jobs suck?”
For the most people the answer will be “Sales jobs suck and suck big time!” Why? Here’s a quick list;
1. Sales is difficult.
2. Prospects will treat you badly.
3. I spend 90% of my time prospecting and little time on actaully trying to make a sale.
4. No one I talk to cares about my product or service.
5. Pospects are difficult to find.
I can continue with the list but I think you get the gist of it at this point. The above list are common reasons why sales jobs suck but in reality sales jobs don’t have to suck. Sales professionals are amongst the highest earners in the country and the differing factor between a person who thinks that sales jobs suck and those high wage earners who will defend their profession until their blue in the face comes down to the company that you work for. Now keep in mind that it takes a special person to succeed in sales. Let’s take a look at the list from a different angle.
1. Sales is difficult. – Being a succussful sales professional is hard but that’s why everyone doesn’t do it. You need to be self confident, beleive in the product or service you are selling and have the ability to cope with rejection well.
2. Prospects will treat you badly. – They don’t always and most of the time it’s due to the sales person. Did you walk into their business why they have 20 customer waiting to pay? Did you not introduce yourself and immediatly begin your pitch? Is the prospect even a candidate for your product or service?
3. I spend 90% of my time prospecting and little time on actaully trying to make a sale. – This is the usual sales dilema. Pospecting over sales time is a sure way to fail in sales but more on this a bit later.
4. No one I talk to cares about my product or service. – It’s your product or service.
5. Pospects are difficult to find. – Again, it’s your product or service.
Being a success in sales has anything and everything to do with the product/service you are offering but just as important is the company you represent. If your product or service has a ton of competition the sale will be more difficult unless the company you represent stands out head and shoulders above the rest. How?
The company offers a great service/product with exceptional service, far above the competition at a lower price point.
The company has a niche offering with little to no competition and a resonable price.
The company may pay commission only but since you are prospecting and generating your own leads they provide you with most of the comission on the sale. For example 60% + on each sale.
The company supplements your efforts with leads generated by the company.
The company has a great reputation.
At the end of the day sales makes the world go round. As a consumer you are being sold everyday whether it’s buying a morning cup of coffee, buying lunch or getting gas for your car. Do sales job suck? Most people think they do but they don’t have to.
Definition of chink used for hundreds of words an as exists in English language dictionaries – “A narrow opening or crack, typically one that admits light.” Duh, what bout the armor? In the days of knights they would concentrate on the opening or “weakness” in the armor in order to be successful in battle.
Anyone with a high school education would realize the headline was referring to a weakness in Lin’s game as in the 9 turnovers committed. Of course since most people are dumb they automatically assume that ESPN editor Anthony Federico was referring to Lin as a Chink, a derogatory term used in reference to Chinese people. If this were truly the case the headline would have read – “Chink Jeremy Lin’s 9 Turnover Costs Knicks in Streak-stopping Loss to Hornets” The differences in the headlines are quite obvious.
Federico is a fan of both Lin and the Knicks yet I’m to believe that he was using the term solely because Lin is Chinese? Nope, I’m not a fucking idiot. The suspended ESPN anchor, Max Bretos’ wife is Asian!! It’s sad that so many people are up in arms over a damn headline when the “target” Jeremy Lin had this to say; “You have to learn to forgive, and I don’t even think it was intentional.”
So Lin himself does not feel it was intentional yet a 28 year old man loses his job and possibly his career in trying to point out that Lin has a hole or weakness in his game. Perhaps people should spend less time watching reality television and pick up a damn dictionary.
I’m sick and tired reading about racial profiling by the NYC Police Department’s use of stop and frisk. The purpose of the stop and frisk policy is to stop and question individuals matching descriptions of people who committed violent crimes. Since the policy has been put into place in 2002 there have been 819 guns taken off the streets.
The NYCLU and other groups complain that most people stopped by police officers are Black and Hispanic. Here’s a common sense news flash! Black and Hispanics make up a little over 50% of the New York City population but make up over 94% arrested for firearm possession. In fact Black and Hispanics commit well over 90% of all felony crimes in New York City.
Could it possibly be that since Black and Hispanics make up over 90% of criminal suspects that Black and Hispanics would be stopped and frisked more than Whites? Could it possibly be that low income areas are predominantly populated by Black and Hispanics were most of the crimes are committed? Of course, it’s COMMON SENSE!!!!
Bottom line is that we have an influx of illegal firearms in New York City and this policy has taken 819 guns off the street. Who knows how many crimes could have been committed with those guns and how many people’s lives have been saved as a result of this “racial” stop and frisk policy.
Don’t agree? Talk to the family of Detective Kevin Herlihy who was shot while chasing a suspect in Harlem. Talk to the family of Officer Kevin Brennan who was shot in the head chasing a suspect. Talk to the family of Officer Peter Figoski who lost his life when he was shot to death in Brooklyn.
On Janauary 1st, 2012 MSG pulled their signal from Time Warner Cable leaving sports fans in the dark in parts of New York City, upstate New York and parts of New Jersey. At the heart of the issue is MSG demanding a 53% increase in fees from Time Warner Cable which was refused. As a result, people like my buddy, a die hard New York Knicks fan, can’t watch his team.
MSG pulled the same crap on DISH last year yet their answer is to switch providers. The dumb asses should realize that many people cannot switch, especially those who cannot obtain permission to place a dish anywhere in their buildings or whose neighborhoods aren’t wired for Verizon Fios. Besides, why switch when MSG could possibly do the same thing to thos providers?
There is one thing not bothers me greatly. Cablevision owns the Knicks, Rangers and the Network. At the end of the day it seems as if Cablevision is trying to stick it to Time Warner Cable. Where is the FCC and FTC on this?
Of course, MSG is placing the blame on Time Warner even though they pulled the signal. MSG is spending money on Facebook ads and throwing viewing parties but don’t really give a damn about the fans. Those damn illegals….they took our jobs! Thanks to the geniuses in Alabama it is now legal for law enforcement to stop anyone on the street who he or she feels may be an illegal immigrant. Furthermore, public schools are now required to check the immigration status of all students who attend.
Since the law went into effect there has been a mass exodus of illegals from Alabama opening up all those wonderful jobs that those damn illegals keep taking from hard working Americans. Of course, since many of the illegals in Alabama work on farms one would think that farmers would not have a hard time finding workers especially with so many seeking employment.
Well, two farmers in Alabama have reported a combined $400,000 in lost income due to the law? Why, those damn hardworking Americans don’t want to do the work. Those who don’t quit on their first day on the job show up late while others don’t have the stamina or experience the illegals provided. To add insult to injury it’s reported that if only 10,000 out of the 120,000 illegals in the state stop working, Alabama will have to somehow replace $130,000,000 in lost tax revenue. You mean illegals pay taxes? Yes they do.
I for one do not consider most politicians intelligent, especially Governor Robert J. Bentley who was the main proponent of the law. You think he could have taken 2 hours of out his day to watch a movie called “A Day Without a Mexican” a movie where every Mexican in the state of California simply disappears leaving no one to attend to lawns, wash cars and clean homes. Yeah, Governor Bentley, deport all those damn illegals, make up the lost tax revenue and magically find the $2.8 billion it will cost to deport them all.
Admittedly I have never watched a full episode if this “hit” TLC show that revolves around beauty pageants for tots. I’ve only come across it a few times while clicking through the channels and stopped for a few seconds to think WTF!
There is something really wrong with dressing up 3 year olds and trying to make them sexy! Wendy Dickey dressing up her 3 year old Paisley to look like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman was super DISTURBING. I even more disturbed that these pageants exist in the first place. Toddler should be drinking milk, reading books and playing tea time not prancing around a damn stage shaking their butts acting like super divas.
Yes, Toddlers and Tiaras is disturbing but what’s even more disturbing is that over 1.8 million viewers tune in each week to watch this crap. Over 1.8 million viewers? Who in their right mind watches this show? I’ll take a guess and say that half are pageant moms and the other half are pedophiles as neither can ever be considered to be in their right minds.
Someone at TLC has to know right from wrong and pull the plug on this show.
