I was thinking about this a few days ago. It’s no secret the economy is in the dumps and there are thousands of people who are unable to gain employment. With this in mind I started thinking about how society could make a positive change in the lives of many. The cost? $1 a month.

Food, shelter and clothing are the basic necessities of life. Say you have a guy who has a wife and three kids. He purchased a home and had a mortgage payment that he could afford. His company closes their doors and he is now unable to find employment. After some time he’s able to find a job but each month is now a struggle. How much better would his life and the lives of his family be if he didn’t have to worry about that mortgage payment each month?

Let’s say that mortgage payment is $1500 per month. With that $1500 per month not an expense each month that’s $1500 a month that can be used for groceries, clothing and savings.
There are over 300,000,000 million people in the U.S.A. If only 2,000,000 people each month said “Here’s $1 to help a family” that’s $2,000,000 per month that could be used to change the lives of people. How many of course would depend on each families circumstances but let’s say 10 people per month who owe $200,000 on their homes. That would be 120 families a year that would no longer have to worry about their mortgages.

Sounds good to me in theory but the problem is that how many people would actually donate $1 per month for such a cause. How many people wouldn’t simply because of the question “What’s in it for me?” How about knowing that your measly $1 per month or $12 a year could help change the lives of few hundred people per year? I know I would donate $1 per month, how about you?
