J. Cole Autism Lyric – Are People Serious?

As I was driving home from work yesterday I was listening to Hot 97 when a DJ with the news of the day read a statement from rapper J.Cole with regard to a lyric made on a track called “Jodeci Freestyle.”

As I drove I listened to the following being read by the DJ;

“To the entire Autism community who expressed outrage, I’m moved and
inspired by your passion, and I’m amazed at how strong you are as a
unit. I have now read stories online from parents about their
struggles and triumphs with raising an Autistic child and I admire how
incredibly strong you have to be to do so. It’s touching. It also
makes what I said even more embarrassing for me. I feel real shame.
You have every right to be angry.”

That wasn’t the full statement but the simple fact that J. Cole felt it necessary to make a statement and the fact that Drake removed the lyric from the track made me wonder what in the hell could J. Cole have said on the track that had people so outraged?

So earlier today I went to YouTube and listened to the track. After listening I screamed out loud “YOU HAVE TO BE FUCKING KIDDING ME!” I can’t believe the hysteria and public outrage over the following line….

“…go check the numbers dummy. It’s just me getting started. I’m artistic you niggas is autistic retarded…”

Maybe it’s just me but I really don’t get what all the fuss is about. It’s a fact that depending on the severity of autism, autism is considered a form of mental retardation. J. Cole went into his lyrical bag of tricks and came out with a nice line yet has to publicly apologize for including the word “autism” in his rhyme? Did he state that autism is evil? Did he state that being autistic is a choice? Did he state that raising an autistic child is not difficult? NOPE!!!!

It seems that in this day and age people are super sensitive over nonsense but could give a rat’s ass about things that actually matter. Forget the U.S. is a fucking mess. Forget that as a country we are not close to the top 10 in education. Forget that billion dollar corporations get away with not paying income taxes. That shit doesn’t matter yet J. Cole’s 5 second rhyme gets peoples panties in a bunch. It seems that as time goes on people are becoming more stupid…. ahhhh stupider!

19 years ago Redman cut a track called “Can’t Wait” where he rapped “I’m like RUHH, RUHH like I had Cerebral Palsy…..” yet there was no public outrage. There was no need for Redman to make a public statement apologizing to the cerebral palsy community. In my opinion this lyric was more offensive than J. Cole’s lyric but here’s a common sense news flash. It’s a fucking rap song as in entertainment! If you are not entertained by it, don’t listen to it! It’s not meant to be taken literally! It’s a lyric….nothing more…a simple lyric.

At the end of the day it seems that the good old US of A is turning out a bunch if super sensitive pussies. Listen to the radio and you can listen to piss poor rap songs like MACKLEMORE’s/Mary Lamber’s “She Keeps Me Warm.” This topic is nothing more than pure bullshit. If rappers need to apologize for every offense comment made in a song than Nas was right….. Hip Hop is DEAD!

    he used autism as an insult. j. coles retarded. stupid. why would he use that word knowing of all the attention he gets. it must b painful to hear some1 who gets as much attention as that fuck boi belittle a loved one who cant help being autistic. i mean cmon dick AND what is artistic ? everything can be considered an art. j. coles naive as FUCK for even mentioning hes artistic than calling his enemy as autistic- like if it was impossible for an autistic to be “artistic” hehe

    No shit! The line was meant to be an insult and NO not “everything” can be considered an art. When you take a shit does that make you an artist? People who make music for a living are called recording artists….get it? Had J. Cole not used the word autistic but rather the pc term of mentally challenged you would take exception?

    Besides missing Redman’s apology I must have missed Canibus’ apology for recording “Get Retarded.”
